Business Start Up Wisdom Tips

"The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways...."

Proverbs 14:8

Put God First in Your Day & Business Plans

Starting a business has many challenges. It is important that you handle each challenge with courage.

Everyday can be something different.  How do you remain sane during the ups and downs of business startup?

Put God first in your day.  Start the first few minutes or hour with God.  Thank Him for another day to work on

your business.  Ask Him for help to handle whatever comes your way that day.  He is in control of the past,

present and future.  Your business startup is not too small or too big of an issue for Him.  When making plans,

whether you are deciding on an office space, vendor or preparing for a sales presentation, ask God to direct you

  and He will.

   Family First, Then Your Business

Starting a business and managing your everyday life can get hectic.  Learn to put the important things of life

first.  Your family comes first than your business.  Sit down with your family and explain why you are starting a

business.  Explain how it will benefit them (financial security, better life, pay off debt, etc).  Ask for their opinion

and help.  Do not neglect your family, especially the children, in pursuit of money.  You can't take your earthly

possessions with you when you die.

  • Make time for junior's little league games.  You may not be able to go to all of them but plan with him on the most important ones.  Once you promise to go, keep your word.
  • Eat dinner with the family.  That is where you usually here what is going on in their lives.
  • Schedule family time and keep it.  Go on camping trips, have a picnic in the backyard, etc. Your family want quality time with you.

Providing for your family is important.  However many, in pursuit of financial success, have lost their loved ones

in the process.  It is an empty life to have alot of money and have no one you truly love to share it.  Family

  first, then the business.

Make Sacrifices For Your Business Startup

Starting a business will require alot of extras from you.  You will need to sacrifice some of your leisure time to

plan and run your business.  You will need to sacrifice some or all of your disposable income to cover startup

costs.  Sacrifices can be made in these common areas:

  • decrease or eliminate magazine subscriptions
  • downgrade cable/internet/phone packages
  • rent movies rather than go out to the movie theater
  • minimize eating out
  • eliminate unnecessary purchases

Small savings add up and can be used to cover business expenses such as office supplies, postage, gas,

etc.  It can also help you borrow less money to start or expand your business.  The less you borrow the more

you keep.  It is important when you meet with your family that you explain the reasons for these changes.  Your

family can unwittingly sabotage your efforts.

Stay Focus to Get the Business Off the Ground

Create a vision for your business.  Write your business vision statement on paper. Once you have made the

decision to start a business, stay focus.  Do not waver because it gets hard or you run into roadblocks.  You

need to program your mind that there will be  challenges.  Set your mind to overcome whatever come your way

each day to reach your business startup goals.  Stay the course.  The road to business success requires

perserverance and a focused mind.  Set clear business goals, create realistic business plan and keep your eye

  on the vision.

    Have Faith

Faith is believing in something you do not see yet.  Visualize a clear picture of what you want your business to

become.  Draw it, cut it out of a magazine, write it out and put it where you work on your business.  When you

become discourage look at the picture so it can remind you what you are working towards.  Also, remember to

ask God for strength.  He will give it to you.

   Plan Effectively

Starting a business requires alot of planning.  There is much to do before you can welcome customers.  How do

  you get it all done?

  • Get a binder with loose leaf paper and write down everything that needs to done.  You may need to add to the list as you go along.  Keep track of your business starup progress in the binder.
  • Number each task in the order of importance
  • Assign each task to be accomplish per month, then by week then by day and then by hour.
  • Each day figure out what will be done and how long it will take.  Set realistic time frames to complete each task for your business startup  If something will take a month to complete but you only allot 2 weeks you will only frustrate yourself.  For example, creating a business website can take up to several months to complete depending on the complexity of the site.  For this project you would break up the different tasks that needs to be completed into weeks then days and then hours.

Work with a concentrated effort to reach your business startup goals.  If there is a day you do not complete your

tasks, don't be discourage just reassign it and catch up another day.

   Be Positive & Courageous

We know while starting your business you experience good days and bad days.  The key is to remain positive

and forge ahead.  You need to think and speak positive about your challenges.  Negativity seeps the strength

out of you. You need to be strong and courageous to start and launch a business.  View your business

challenges as opportunities to gain business experience.  There will be times you may need to vent and let it

out.  Sometimes taking a day off from business will do a world of good.  Share your frustrations with your loved

ones.  Ask for their opinion and help if necessary.  Take the time to rest your mind and body and come back

  ready to conquer your goliath.

Balance Your Full Time Job & Part time Business Effectively

In the beginning, you may have to continue working your full time job while you start your business on the

side.  This can be a big fear for many people.  They wonder if they will have enough time and energy to work

their regular full time job and also start and run a business on the side.  Let me remind you, there are

thousands of Americans working two jobs to make ends meet and there is no end in sight.  Turn your business

endeavors into a part time job.  What does it take to balance a full time job and a part time business?  Discipline

and hard work.  Pure and simple.  You are going to have to train your mind and body to not want the lazy chair

and the remote control at the end of your work day.  You will need to train yourself to put an extra 2-3 hours

  each evening towards your business.

One of the reasons people just want to relax after they come home from work is because they no longer have

any energy left.  You can increase your energy by

  • Starting your day with breakfast.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  It gets your inner oven going.
  • Eating healthy.  We read and hear this all the time but many are just stuck in their bad eating habits.  Do not start your day with coffee and donuts.  The caffeine will have you going up and down and after the sugar wears off you will feel tired and moody.  It would be very sad to eventually have a successful business but unable to enjoy the fruits of your labor due to the effects of a poor diet.  Eat fruits and vegetables with each meal and drink half your body weight in water each day
  • Taking a good multi-vitamin every day.  Studies have found that take multi-vitamin in powder or liquid form is more beneficial than in tablet form.
  • Exercising regularly.  Learn to get up early to exercise.  You can walk, jog or do a workout video.  Do some form of exercise at least 3-4 times a week to keep your inner juices flowing.  Those who regularly exercise are more productive throughout the day.
